Cookie Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Birikko ("Birikko", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on birikko.com and its subdomains, what we use them for, and how you can control them.

This policy has been prepared in line with Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) and the guidance of the Turkish Data Protection Authority, as well as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy Directive where applicable.

For a full picture of how we handle personal data, please also read our Privacy Policy.

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. Cookies keep the site working properly, remember your preferences, and help us understand how the site is used.

In this policy, "cookies" also covers similar technologies:

  • Local storage (localStorage / sessionStorage): storing settings such as your theme preference in the browser
  • Pixels and tracking tags: measuring page views
  • Device identifiers: used in the mobile app in place of cookies

3. Why we use cookies

3.1 Strictly necessary cookies

Required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. Right now the only cookie in this category is the one that remembers your chosen language.

Legal basis: performance of a contract and legitimate interests (KVKK Art. 5/2; GDPR Art. 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(f)). No consent is required for these cookies.

3.2 Functional storage

Your light/dark theme preference is not stored in a cookie but in your browser's local storage, and is never sent to our server. It is written only when you change the theme yourself.

Legal basis: storing a user-interface preference that you explicitly requested; no separate consent is required.

3.3 Analytics and performance cookies

We use Google Analytics to measure visitor statistics, with tags managed through Google Tag Manager. It shows us, in aggregate, which pages are viewed and how long visits last.

These cookies are set only after you accept them. If you reject, or make no choice at all, no analytics cookie is created — Google Consent Mode v2 starts from a denied state.

Legal basis: consent (KVKK Art. 5/1; GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).

3.4 Marketing and advertising cookies

None. Birikko uses no third-party advertising or profiling cookies on its website. If this changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent beforehand.

4. Cookies we use

The table below reflects our current implementation and is reviewed before each release.

birikko.com is a marketing site only — there is no sign-up, sign-in or form submission. That is why exactly one cookie is used.

5. Third-party providers

If you accept analytics cookies, the following provider is involved:

ProviderServicePolicy
Google LLCGoogle Analytics, Google Tag Managerpolicies.google.com/privacy

This may involve transferring your data outside Türkiye; the transfer relies on your explicit consent under KVKK Art. 9.

Apart from this, no third party sets cookies on the site: every file, fonts included, is served from our own server. If you reject analytics, the page makes no request to any external address.

For the full list of providers used by the mobile app, see our Privacy Policy and KVKK Disclosure Notice.

6. Managing your preferences

A cookie banner appears on your first visit, where you can accept or reject analytics cookies. The reject option carries the same visual weight as accept.

You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie preferences" link in the site footer. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Your choice is stored for 13 months, after which you are asked again.

Through your browser

You can delete or block all cookies in your browser settings. If you block the NEXT_LOCALE cookie the site keeps working; your language choice simply is not remembered, and each visit follows your browser's language setting instead.

7. The mobile app

The Birikko mobile app does not use browser cookies. It uses secure on-device storage to keep you signed in and to save your app settings. This policy applies to web views opened inside the app (for example help and support pages).

You can manage in-app analytics and personalisation preferences under Settings → Privacy.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to be informed about whether your personal data is processed, to request access to it, to have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected, to request erasure or restriction of processing, to object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to have these actions communicated to third parties your data was shared with. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Contact us using the details below. We respond to requests within 30 days.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in law, new features, or changes to our service providers. The current version is always published on this page and the "Last updated" date is revised. For significant changes we will notify you on the site and, where required, ask for your consent again.
